Top 10 Library Tips for Online Students

1. Visit Moodle’s Resources for Success at Phillips course for guides and tutorials on how to use library resources (this handout is listed there!):  https://moodle.ptstulsa.edu/course/view.php?id=381#section-3

2. We mail books to you! Can’t make it in? Just request it! Call or email us and verify your address.

3. If we don’t already own it, the Library offers Interlibrary Loan for articles, books, films, and more! Contact the Phillips Library at ptslibrary@ptstulsa.edu or 918-270-6437 to request. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the books to get to you! More information can be found at: http://ptstulsa.edu/InterlibraryLoan

4. If you live in Oklahoma, Phillips Students qualify for an OK-Share card. This gives you privileges at other participating OK-Share libraries. Find out if you live near one: http://okhighered.org/ocald/participating-libraries.shtml

Contact the Phillips Library for a card.

5. Use WorldCat to find specific books in your area. If ILL isn’t going to be fast enough, go to http://www.worldcat.org/ to locate where a book is closest to you. Once you locate a book, you can visit the specific library which holds it. Policies on the book you need depend on the holding library. Call the library ahead of your trip to see if they’ll lend or let you use it.

6. We can email .pdf portions of texts to you. Can’t wait for the book to be mailed to you, but know the specific chapter you need? As long as it falls under fair use, we’re happy to scan and email documents to you. This may be especially helpful if you only need portions of commentaries covering specific Bible verses. We can even scan the table of contents.

7. We have ebooks! Just search the library catalog like you would for a print title. A link to the book will be listed in the search results. To search for only ebooks, use the dropdown in the search bar to limit to “Full Text Online.” http://ptstulsa.edu/FindBooksArticlesandMore

8. Library news is posted on the Moodle homepage (https://moodle.ptstulsa.edu/). Watch that space for updates on things like the Library’s book displays and other stuff you’ll miss if you’re not on-campus!

9. The Library has compiled a list of helpful writing and research guides. It can be found on the Phillips Website here: http://ptstulsa.edu/WritingandResearchGuides

Be sure to look over the Phillips Style Guide and Sample Paper! We also have a subscription to the Chicago Manual of Style Online at that link.

10. If you have any questions about accessing your reserve or eReserve material for your classes, you can always contact the Reserves Librarian Katherine Casey at 918-270-6432 or katherine.casey@ptstulsa.edu.
